First Martha tells us how she came up with the famous pseudonym “Morena”, which she also uses to sign her works.
How did the pseudonym “Morena” come about?
It came up because my last name is Moreno, but I wanted it to be feminine, and to evoke feminism, to make it known that the artist was a woman, so I changed the “o” to the “a” and it became Morena, and I liked it. Besides being my father’s last name, it represents the essentially Latin American skin color. I always accompany this pseudonym with the two numbers of the month and the year in which the work is finished.
Martha affirms that she wants, through her works, to have a kind of sentimental connection with people, and to make them interact with happy and emotional feelings when they admire her paintings.
¿What surprises you about what people get from your works?
When they see my works and like them, I feel that I connect with those people, an emotional affinity with the person.
¿What defines your artistic style?
Emotions, feelings, I paint when I feel happy or motivated, my style is free, a pure expressionism of freedom and expression of feelings.
¿What is your purpose in painting?
Capture an emotion that people remember and feel as something beautiful, pleasurable, that they think is nice.
¿What do you like most about your art?
That it generates emotions in people, provoking an emotional connection with them, feeling that bond with the person.

When did you become interested in art?
From a very young age, from school I always loved to paint. In high school, with my art skills, I helped my classmates by selling artwork that was homework.

What was your first job and what inspired you to do it?
It was a portrait of my mother, which I made from a photograph she had, in which I thought she looked very pretty, had long hair and was in black and white, from when she was young. A close-up framed portrait.
¿What other artistic styles have you used?
I tried several techniques, charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, palette knife, and oil brush, which is my favorite.
¿How far do you want to go with art?
Up to the stars.
¿Do you think there is such a thing as bad art?
Not at all, I think that whoever makes a work and likes it is enough to be a work.
